Miss Fink has joined our class.  We are all enjoying getting to know her.  She is already a great asset to our classroom.  Miss Fink is a student at MSU and is from Washington State.  She knows sign language and is excited to teach some sign language to the class.

We have just finished our unit on fossils.  We learned about different kinds of fossil and how fossils are formed.  Each second grader also researched information about a dinosaur and made a diorama to go with their research.  Students presented their dioramas and information to the class.  All second graders will be going on a field trip to the Museum of the Rockies on Monday, January 30th to learn more about dinosaur fossils.

We are going to begin studying biofuels.  Biofuels are an alternative form of energy. Scientists grow algae cells to extract the oil in the cells and then convert the oil to a useable fuel.  We will be growing algae cells in class and observing them under a microscope to better understand how this could be a viable source of energy in the future.

Our next Social Studies unit will begin in February; we will be studying Maps and Globes in February.

We are all looking forward to moving into our new classroom in March.
