Christmas Concert Reflections

posted Dec 20, 2012, 7:10 PM by Andrea Feige   [ updated Dec 20, 2012, 7:10 PM ]

The Christmas Concert has come and gone and I would just like to say "Thank You" to anyone and everyone involved!  I feel so lucky to work with your child(ren) during the week and have learned so much from them.  I hope that you all enjoyed the concert!  Most importantly, I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season (whichever holiday you choose to celebrate!)

posted Nov 28, 2012, 9:59 AM by Andrea Feige   [ updated Nov 28, 2012, 9:59 AM ]

I hope that your Thanksgiving was relaxing (and delicious) and that your Holiday Season continues to be enjoyable!

The next two days are early releases for conferences.  I will be holding an open door policy both Thursday and Friday. On both days, I will be available from 1pm-4pm, unless an appointment has been set up.

If you walk in and find me in conversation with another family, please wait patiently! I hope to (re)meet many of you in the next two days!

Thanks for your understanding and, please, stop in and say "Hello!"

Practice Sheets, Playing Tests, Extra Credit - The Nitty Gritty

posted Oct 10, 2012, 1:45 PM by Andrea Feige   [ updated Oct 10, 2012, 1:45 PM ]

Hello everyone!

The school year definitely got off to a quick start and now I feel like I can finally catch my breath.  After giving it much thought, I have decided to make a move away from required practice sheets every week. I fear that practice sheets put more emphasis on quantity of practice and not the quality of practice. Thus, I am initiating playing tests every other week. The students will find out at the end of one playing test what is going to be covered on the next playing test. My goal, in doing this, is to encourage students to put effort forth in their practice and really make strides towards improving.  The rubric with which the students will be graded for their playing tests is attached.

I have also offered the 6-8th grade bands extra credit. I have attached the same sheet I gave them in class to this post.  They are to write the essays in 12pt, Times New Roman font, double space.

As always, if there are any questions/concerns, please contact me.  If I don't hear anything, I assume all is well! (Which is what I absolutely hope!)

Infinite Campus

posted Sep 23, 2012, 10:22 AM by Andrea Feige   [ updated Sep 23, 2012, 10:22 AM ]

As I updated grades for Infinite Campus this weekend, I noticed that many students still have not returned their signed Classroom Management sheet.  These sheets were worth 10points in the 4-6 grades and 15 points in the 7/8 grade band.  Thus, with a limited number of grades in the gradebook to date, this assignment makes up a significant portion of your grade to-date.

If you have lost the sheet, please come see me to get a new copy. If you continue to forget it (or it's lost in the black hole known as "the bottom of your backpack"), please find it an turn it in.  This will quickly turn your grade around and I will input them as soon as I receive them.  Remember, your grade affects which activities you can participate in!

Any concerns can be directed to me via e-mail:

I will also attach the file to this post, so that you may download and print it at home if it is more convenient for you.

This link is to an interesting article the NY Times did about how musical lessons/learning music can positively affect an individual's brain for the rest of their lives.

Thanks to Thomas Brown for the article!

6th Grade Band! IMPORTANT

posted Sep 11, 2012, 3:14 PM by Andrea Feige   [ updated Sep 11, 2012, 3:14 PM ]

Hey 6th grade instrumentalists and parents -

By NEXT TUESDAY (6/18), I need all students who are not renting an instrument from Eckroth music to have their instrument in band.
Lack of an instrument will affect the student's grade.

I also need all students to have Essential Elements 2000 BOOK ONE in class by that Tuesday.  If you are going to have difficulties getting to Eckroth Music to buy the book, please email me your name, instrument, and grade level so that I may figure out a way to get one to you.

7th and 8th Grade Instrumentalists!

I had an awesome time getting to know you today!  Thanks for being attentive as we went through all of the nitty-gritty rules and details. REMINDER: The signed "Classroom Management" Sheet is due on Monday.  You also have your first quiz over Classroom Rules on Monday as well.  Both items are worth points!

(Oh, and you got a "Noteable" for being attentive and participating. We'll see what we can do about your suggestions!)
