We had a very busy week last week with our kite extravaganza and the field trip to Sunset Hills Cemetery.  This week looks just as busy for our third graders.  In communication arts we are going to be reading a realistic fiction story called "The Science Fair".  The story is about a girl who competes in a science fair.  Our phonics skill that we will be working on is words that have the suffixes -able "capable of", -ible "capable of", -less "without" and , -ous "full of". This week we will be learning a new focus skill that will help us with our comprehension.  The focus skill is making predictions.  In grammar we will be learning about contractions.  Most of the contractions that we will be working with will be negatives.  We will be going over avoiding double negatives as well.

In math we are starting a new unit on reviewing measuring.  We will be learning about volume, weight, and capacity.  Students will be exploring the concept of these three by using different types of scales.

We will be heading downtown Bozeman for our field trip this week in Bozeman History.  We will be observing all the different type of architecture that was used in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  Make sure your third grader has good walking shoes for Thursday and he or she can bring a couple dollars because if everything goes well we will stop and get a treat!
